Hiking Along engages children in exploration of the natural world and encourages them to appreciate and learn about the environment and how humans impact it while hiking on scenic trails around the Metro DC region. While hiking, groups of children, preschool to high school, participate in hands-on science activities to learn about their natural surroundings. Eight different, two mile hikes are offered to engage and teach children about hiking safety, Leave No Trace, trees, rocks, deciduous and wetland ecosystems, and animal adaptations. Visit the hike information page to read the descriptions of the eight themed hikes. For general information about Hiking Along's hikes, visit the program overview page.
