Hiking & Science
Hiking Along hikes are lead by an experienced hiker and certified teacher. During each hike, the children in the group will participate in three hands-on activities and will hike two miles. Each hike takes two and a half hours to complete; however, groups are asked to allocate three hours of their time.
Hiking Along leads hikes for groups of twenty-five children or less with no minimun group number. The hike cost per child is based on a sliding scale of the number of children in the group:
- 10+ children $10 per child
- 5-9 children $15 per child
- 1-4 children $20 per child
Hiking Along provides a family discount. The first child is full price and each additional child within a family is half price. We encourage parents to hike with their children at no extra cost.

Girl Scout Troops
Hiking Along will work with Girl Scout troops to complete objectives towards earning a badge. The Girl Scout troop supplies Hiking Along with the badge objectives. Based on the group's choosen hike, Hiking Along will communicate with the Girl Scout troop which objectives the girls will accomplish during the hike.
Preschool Hikes
Do you think your preschooler can hike two miles? Many parents say no, not my child. However, a lot of preschoolers can hike two miles in a group setting of their peers while participating in age appropriate nature activities. Hiking Along uses nature and science themes to help young children increase their gross and fine motor skills, their spatial and sequential auditory and visual skills, and their social skills. Parents are asked to hike with their children for safety and enrichment reasons.
Environmental Service Learning
Hiking Along develops and organizes environmental service learning projects for groups and organizations who need would like to engage their children in environmental stewardship. Hiking Along can help groups organize such projects as:
- Litter clean-ups
- Tree plantings
- Planting a rain or vegetable garden
Before and after children in the group participate in the service project, Hiking Along will engage them in pre and post learning exercises to understand the environmental purpose of the stewardship. Please contact Jennifer at Hiking Along, 240-893-1347, to discuss these or other environmental service learning projects.
Nature Presentations and Activities
The nature presentations and activities are intended for groups who can not participate in a nature hike. Hiking Along will come to your group to teach the concepts and activities provided on one of the eight themed hikes of your choosing. These presentations and activities are individualized for the age appropriateness (preschool to high school) of your group. Presentations and activities are one hour long for a cost of $75. Contact Jennifer at Hiking Along, 240-893-1347, to schedule a nature presentation for your group.
